Whn to Remove Bandage After Having Blood Draw

I'm such a wimp but does anyone who has a blood test know how long you should keep the bandage on and how to take it off without any pain or sting at all? Is there any risk of infection is there is an open there?

Thank you

I do the tests really often cause of my basketball tests and take it off after 3 minutes max. Nothing ever happened to me.

You mean like a sticking plaster? I always do it after like an hour.

Saying that, I usually just get given a piece of cotton wool...

Thanks Djordje I know I must sound such an idiot, but even writing this and thinking about it makes me all tense and funny...I couldn't listen to most Science lessons because of this lol

Oh yeh, sorry, it is pretty much cotton wool with a sticky bit lol...thanks

I know that when I give platelets I'm supposed to keep the plaster on for around 4-6 hours IIRC, but that's a bigger needle. I'd give it a few hours just to be on the safe side. As long as there was enough pressure put on it after the needle went out then there shouldn't have been too much bleeding, and the plaster is just there as a safeguard.

As to taking it off without any pain or sting? Is it literally some gauze under a bandage or is it a sticky plaster? If it's a sticky plaster you could soak it off in the bath/shower. Otherwise just take off the bandage and gauze and it shouldn't hurt tbh.

The hole is so small that the chances of infection are very slim, as it'll start to heal over quickly!

I always just get a piece of cotton wool to dab on it for a couple of minutes but it's normally gone by the time I leave and doesn't really hurt anymore

That's the best kind...the cotton wool doesn't sick to your skin and pull your hairs out, so it's painless to remove .

You only need it on for a minute or two I normally have it off by the time I am at the car park! :P

Thank You Jake I am getting a little sting when I move my arm at the mo, but that's likely me being paranoid as usual and is in fact simply the sticky bit stretching hairs ha

Bandage hahahahahahha (sorry) bless
